Beatriz Valente grew up in Lisbon and never quite managed to leave, though she'll admit the city's coffee habit is partly to blame. Before she started writing about deals, she spent four years as a community manager for a Brazilian mobile publisher, fielding the same question hundreds of times a day: is this offer actually worth it? She got tired of not having an honest answer, so she went looking for one.

These days she reads patch notes the way other people read the morning news, and she keeps a running list of which publishers quietly walk back their "best ever" bundles a month later. She has a soft spot for the rare weeks when a first-purchase bonus genuinely beats its face value, and she'll say so plainly on the weeks it doesn't.
